SGH-G600

As phones nowadays have turned into multimedia devices, a class of dedicated cameraphones has appeared and the manufacturers are trying to offer the best possible digital camera packed into a phone that doesn’t lack other functionality the customers would request.

A year ago, we published our first comparison of the cameraphones that were the best on the market, at that time. 3-megapixel was the top resolution in GSM phone for the European market and auto-focus wasn’t available in all of the tested phones. At that time, Sony Ericsson K800 and Samsung D900 performed the best, sharing the first place.

Today we are reviewing the new generation Samsung slider, targeted as dedicated cameraphone – the G600 has similar dimensions to its predecessor (the D900) but packs 2 additional megapixels of resolution. The software also changed, and the new slider will offer you improved camera interface with horizontal orientation and newer generation software. The G600 is not an Ultra Series device due to its thickness of almost 15mm (0.6”) and the slim slider that replaces the D900 in this aspect is the U600, which is equipped with 3-megapixel camera.

Not targeted as a luxurious device, the G600 comes in pretty plain box. In addition to the standard charger, USB cable and various manuals and CD with synchronization software, you will also find stereo headset in two parts (adapter and 3.5mm noise isolating headphones), microSD card with adapter to full SD (in our case it was 1GB) and a small Bluetooth headset (Samsung WEP210) with adapter for charging.

W270

Motorola unveiled yet another addition to their W Series phones, the Motorola W270. To be released during the first quarter of 2008, it is a budget phone and then some. So as expected, it therefore lacks the thrills and spills the modern cell phone aficionados around the globe have come to love and expect from mobile phones.

The clamshell body of the W270 is more akin to Motorola's highly successful line of RAZR phones, albeit thicker, and stripped of all its inside frills. It is intended for the no - nonsense user looking for a phone that does a good job of doing what a mobile phone is supposed to do in the first place, namely for voice calls and text messages. Being that as it is, one has to be careful when judging the W270. It is a mobile phone first and foremost, with just the added secondary features of MP3 capabilities and some other "strictly" useful apps. The interface is user friendly and both novice and advanced users will take no time at all familiarizing themselves with it.


Motorola W270 Camera and Display
What! No camera? Well, as mentioned above, expect no "much more than what you need" mega pixel camera here. As it is intended for the budget concious consumer, a camera would only add so much to its cost and would greatly defeat its purpose. It does however have a decent screen that is able to display 65K colors at a 128 x 128 pixel resolution. Just the ample size for navigating through the W270's simple menu interface, or even for browsing the Web. TS605

Toshiba recently announced TS605, a slim mobile phone that includes the same features as the TS32, the only difference being the colors it comes in and the fact that the TS32 is distributed on the Asian market, while TS605 is available in Europe.

While there are only two color options available for the phone's front side, black or silver, the rear casing comes in enough colors to please any person's needs, including green, classic champagne, fluorescent pink, aubergine and more, although the availability of color variants may differ by supplier or country.

Toshiba is also keeping the phone's design pretty simple and slim and, in my opinion, it's somewhat similar in design to the iPod Nano, sleek and slim as it is.

The TS605 is extremely light, weighing 79 grams, and measures 113mm x 47mm x 10.3mm so you'll have no problem carrying it around. What's also nice is that they managed to fit in some pretty great features despite its tiny case.

The TS605 is equipped with a 1.9 inch 262k color display, a 1.3 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom and video capture for those special moments, Mp3 player with a built-in FM Radio and Bluetooth for connectivity, MMS and e-mail support. As for the basic features, the tri-band TS605 also has a Wap 2.0 browser, three embedded games and Java support.

The internal memory is not as large as one would expect, as the 5.5 MB provided may work for storing some photos but will not be enough for storing any music. So, in case you need to store MP3's, the phone also has a MicroSD card slot that supports up to 1GB optional memory card.
